2006 5.4L 3v problems
I am working on a 2006 F-150 wtih 5.4L 3v engine for a customer. I rebuilt the transmission for him, which is working great now. I drove the truck for 2 days after the rebuild to make sure everything was working. It sat for 2 days, then I started it to move it this morning. After starting the engine made a very loud clatter noise, started running rough, started stalling and finally died, cranks by no start. code p0301 is stored for cylinder #1 misfire. It sounds very much like it jumped time.
would cam phazers cause this? if so, how do I test them?

I think I found the problem....
#1 cylinder dropped the front intake valve, broke the lifter and rocker arm
#3 cylinder rear intake valve broke the rocker arm, the other half of the roller is missing
I fished around in a few of the puddles oil in head looking for parts, the magnet came back fury
An added bonus... I found a oil jug seal floating around under the valve cover.

It was decided to fix the truck with a reman head and new timing components. The owner of the truck came up with some money and I got most of the parts last week.
I installed a reman right head, new VCT solenoids, new timing chains and tensioners and right cam phaser.
I got the timing cover on today but don't remember where the top bolts go. I think the ones with threaded studs and nuts go on the left side for the power steering bracket.

I replied to your PM. How did the piston look? Also, I would highly recommend checking the other side rocker for any loose rollers. I bet you will find a few with play in the bearing. You don't want the same thing to happen to the other side after all of this work. It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace all of the rockers on the driver's side. They all have the same miles on them as the right side did.

Engine has been back together for over a week now. when I first got it running, it I thought I had mis-timed the cams, because it ran really rough. After some guidance from a several Ford Master techs, I finally figured out the # 5 spark plug was not firing. New spark plug installed and it runs much better now.
