Just bought a Bullydog GT

Just got a great deal on a Bullydog GT tuner locally. I have an 03 F250 with 170k KM's on it. I'm itching to install it and start running a mild tune ( more interested in improving fuel economy than power). Just wondering if there are any parts that people would recommend that I upgrade before running any tune. The truck is bone stock right now.

Sell that and make a profit on it. Buy an SCT tuner and get custom tunes! The bullydog is known to chew tranny's up!

The BD does not tune the tranny like a custom tune and that is what eats them up.

The Dog loves to chew on the transmission.

Might be why you got a "good deal" on it.
But good for who?

Well, 4 responses, all bad. Are you going to take their advise and return it or sell it, or risk your tranny?

I bought it second hand for 300 bucks cash.

My truck has the 6 speed manual transmission by the way. Not sure if that makes any difference regarding the use of the tuner.

AH, interesting scenario, perhaps you can be the first to try this combo out and report back - always looking to add to our knowledge base.

First off Money-Pit your hilarious. Ok my friend I used to own a bully dog ran it for about 5k miles. I got rid of it because of all the bad reviews, and tranny horror stories. I never once had a problem out of it maybe because I didn't have it that long. I know have a SCT X4 with a set of custom tunes from Matt @ Gearhead. I will say that the bullydog doesn't compare. As far as MPG I've seen 2-3 maybe 4 would be pushing it. I do have two cousins running the bullydog still I would love to line up with em but don't think that's gonna happen.

Should I have anything to worry about when running this tuner with a manual transmission? I don't mind reporting back results for others to hear, but before I potentially ruin my transmission, I'd like to hear of other experiences or stories from others about doing so.

Well I didn't pay that much more for my new SCT with a set of tunes from Matt.

Did you get the outlook monitor? So you can monitor EGTs and water and oil temps? No, it won't hurt the manual tranny, but if your towing with a manual and with a tune you would be wise to watch EGT.

I appologize for my comment, I ASSumed you had an automatic. Since you control when and how the transmission shifts, you may be ok. I don't think I have heard of the BullyDog causing any motor problems.

Try it out and let us know how it works for you.

My tip is to unload it. The money you saved won't come close to the money it'll cost you.
