Tuning Question

Hey guys, I put a set of 238/100 in a little while ago and I'm currently running PHP tunes. For the most part they run great but around idle its really sensitive. I have a manual tranny so its really annoying. There's a couple other issues but that's not the point of this thread.

Bill is almost impossible to get ahold of and Jody is coming out to Modesto the beginning of Nov to do a live tuning session. That's only about 2½ hrs from me. So I was going to go that route but I've heard a couple people with some issues with his tunes. Is that remotely or live tuning too? Or is it mostly shifting issues which I won't have to deal with? Btw his customer service is AWESOME!

Tugly just said in the thread "Single shot injector question" that he couldn't endorse DP tunes so if you could chime in a little that would be great. I don't want to spend $550 in vain.... One thing that did worry me a little is that when I told him I would be changing from PMRs to forged after the tuning session he said there wouldn't need to be any tuning changes. I need to talk to him again and clarify what he meant but just throwing that out there. He's pretty much my only option for live tuning at this point AFAIK.
Thanks a lot.

I'd go for it. You better make an appointment or he could get full up. Why do you want to change to forged rods? Are you planning a lot more HP? He should give you safe tunes for what you have. Plus if you don't like your tune while he's there he can change it. Lots of guy's have problems with there idle at first with SS injectors. Some get lucky with know problems at all. I guess you have full gauges, turbo and all to support the 238/100's?

I am booked. But I was having second thoughts. I currently have a stock turbo with ATS housing and WW2 but I'm planning a 38r b4 the tuning. Im still looking for a used t4 t4i setup bit I just don't feel $3000 is in my budget for a new one.... I should be around 500hp. Won't I be asking for it with PMRs?

Some say they have had luck with the PMR's but yes most would say it could be trouble. There is a guy in New Jersey that runs stock turbo and bob's wheel and likes it. But I would say the 38R is the way to go. Hope you got springs and push rods if you think you are going to get 500HP. The turbo will make a big difference with the tunes. So make sure you replace it first. I say this because you want the best you can have with the live tuning. T4 set-up in California? I don't know how you can smog it.

I have a special smog man. but that probably won't happen anyway. Technically the 38r and Tymar intake are illegal too. And fuel system and no cat too for that matter. I do have valve springs but after much deliberation I didn't go with pushrods, leaving them to take the sass if something bad does happen.

I say push rods only because at those HP numbers you will be turning more RPM's so with the stronger springs it's a good idea. I know what you mean about letting them take the sass, but it's a good idea if your going to go racing!

I think CARB will let you change the intake, unless they changed, but the 38R can be a problem. Why I have know idea, at least it looks stock accept the tube. Let us know what you do. I've been saying for a couple years now that I was going live tuning too, just haven't done my upgrades yet.

The thing about live tuning is the tuner is sitting right there. If you don't like the idle, you say, I don't like the idle and explain what you don't like about it and let them mess with it until you do like it.
