Considering smoked tail lights

Hey guys I've been searching for some aftermarket tail lights for my truck that don't look ridiculous. I found these today and wanted to see if anyone here has used them, or have any thoughts about them.(or smoked lights in general). They look like they are light enough that the tail lights should shine through okay.

I don't like smoked lights in general because they drastically reduce the intended function of a key warning part on the vehicle...hell, its in your best interest to have the brightest taillights possible. They could save your neck and your truck.

The point in having taillights is to tell the guy behind you (probably texting) that you're stopping or turning. Hindering that function is asking for trouble when that teenage girl texting rearends you.

I think i would rather put my money into preserving my truck than making it a target.

i agree. smoked lights are stupid, and illegal in some states.
it is hard enough to see the taillights in these trucks as they are during the day. you want to make them harder to see???

Thanks for the honest input guys....

I like the look of smoked lights but was worried about the same thing you guys mentioned. making the tail lights less visible...These looked like they may be light enough to still allow the brake lights to be seen easily, so I just wanted to see if anyone else has ever used them.

ive seen some people cut the back of the reflector up enough to put in an oval led taillight in, like what 18 wheelers use. This would improve the visibility if you still decide to smoke the taillights.

They look AWFULLY DARk and will limit how much light comes out of them.

if you Must have the smacked taillights look at these...
And put in COLORED LEDs to make them brighter

I used to have smoked tail lights and even with brighter bulbs you couldn't see them in the daylight but they were visible at night. My bro and I Both had them and we were hassled multiple times by inspection, police, and DOT. We were never ticketed but I only found one out of 8 places I went to that would give me a n inspection sticker and we were given several warnings but both of us went back to regular tail lights because it wasn't worth the trouble IMO

Glad you and your bro saw the light. Pun intended.

ANY amount of darkening in a tail light is dumb, IMNSHO. As bright as possible, all the time. Even 10% has a significant effect on visibility. I'[m a big fan of LED brake lights especially--brighter, and they light up about 150 ms faster than incandescent brake lights--which gives the guy following you that much more reaction time and stopping distance. With quality circuitry, an LED tail light should outlast the vehicle.

I know what every one else said and I agree with them. I smoked tinted my taillights and I also replaced with an extremely bright led I picked up on amazon.

These are an older pick of the truck If your interested I can take some tomorrow with the lights on.

I bought a spray on tint from advanced auto zone or Wally World I don't remember but it tints it very fast and I honestly wish I could have practiced on a salvaged tail light or something cause I did it a little dark for my liking.
