replace water pump
#3
Hey there, welcome to FTE!
To remove:
Remove fan and shroud.
Drain some coolant by whatever method you prefer (I pull the lower rad hose).
Remove belt and both accessory brackets. No need to disconnect a/c compressor or p/s pump lines.
Disconnect hoses from water pump.
Take out water pump bolts, be careful with the 4 "wet" bolts as they like to seize and may snap on you even if you're careful. If you need advice on dealing with stubborn bolts then post back.
Water pump can be removed after you take the bolts out. If it's stuck then smack it a few times with a dead blow hammer and it'll come right off.
Then to put it back together:
Clean up gasket surfaces.
Coat both sides of pump-to-backing-plate gasket with your favorite sealant and attach the new backing plate to the new pump.
Coat both sides of backing-plate-to-timing-cover gasket with your favorite sealant, bolt pump onto engine.
Everything else goes back together the same way it came apart.
If you break a bolt you're probably gonna be taking the timing cover off, so might as well have a gasket on hand for that just in case. You can always return it later. And if you go that far then you might as well put a timing set (chain and sprockets) in since they're cheap and you already have the front of the engine torn down.
