Coolant level?

I am going to change coolant and have a couple questions. Is it best to flush it or is it okay to just replace it? Also my degas chamber is missing the sticker that tells me wether the little notch is the Max or min, so how far do I fill it up in the degas?

I am sure that there will be mixed opinions on this, but: if it were me and I knew for positive what coolant was in the truck ( Cat ELC or Ford Gold) and I planned on refilling with the exact same coolant, I think it would be alright to just drain the radiator and both block plugs to provide a little fresh coolant. However, if you have any question whether someone has mixed other types of coolant in the truck or if the coolant has been in the truck for a LONG time then I would flush with distilled water and refill with 3.5 gallons of coolant concentrate. There is a hash mark molded into the degas bottle to represent coolant fill level. If you can't see it, just leave about 1.5 inch of air gap in the degas bottle.

The new max line is the min line. I would not use any chemical flush unless you are changing your oil cooler. It will knock crap loose and plug a good oil cooler. If you are switching coolant types flush twice with tap, once with distilled and final coolant and distilled.

If it were me and even if I were keeping the same
coolant I would do with block drains and a distilled
water flush. That way you remove any of the old coolant.
The old coolant left in the system will effect the life of the
new coolant that you put in.

Also when you put the new in with only distilled water in the system
it's less trobble to get the 50/50 mix.
