1963 F250 4x4 power steering

So I've done some digging around but I have kind of a unique situation. I have a 1963 Ford F250 4x4 the previous owner swapped in a 460 out of the late 80s F250. It's running 37's which are a little unruly at low speed. I'm wondering what kind of options are out there with this set up to run power steering. Hopefully maybe somebody has done this before.

P/S was not available with 4WD until 1973, and then only Power Assist P/S was initially available.

Garrison Power Assist P/S: 1973/75 F100 4WD & 1975 F150 4WD / 1973 F250 4WD & 1974 F250 4WD before serial number T80,001.

Bendix Power Assist P/S: 1974 F250 4WD from serial number T80,001, 1975/76 F250 4WD, 1977 F250 4WD before serial number Y20,001 (last High Boy).

1976/79 F100/150 4WD's use Ford/Saginaw integral P/S as do 1977 F250 4WD's from serial number Y20,001, 1978/79 F250 4WD's & 1979 F350 4WD

Neither of these power steering systems will swap into 1959/72 F100/250 4WD's without a tremendous amount of modifications.

All the Power Assist P/S parts are obsolete, difficult to find NOS and expensive if found.

You can modify your four wheel drive the same way a 61 to 64 two wheel drive can be modified.

A you can do a 78 79 bronco front steer box with column mods or place a mid eighties Toyota box in place of the existing Gemmer unit you have with column modifications.

Here is a shot of a 64 that i converted to front steer.Four wheel drive would follow the same principal.

Simple adjustable left and right hand drag link i made for the truck.

Here is with the box off and the upper rail modification.

Here is the box and the inner 1/2" plate mount.

The bronco box mounts on the outside of the rail and make a cross steer linkage. Or you can use a 2 wheel drive box and mount it on the inside of the rail and a straight up linkage.

Here is a later 79 2 wheel drive box on my 69 crew cab Highboy.

If you think it through it is a pretty easy swap if you can fabricate.

While reading this thread I had napass2004 steering thread in mind since it wasn't to long ago that he did the conversion. I never converted my 64 4x4 to power steering but I did convert my 71 crew cab highboy over using a 79 F250 4x4 box. Check out this this thread for an idea there's many ways to convert over just need to be creative and be able to fabricate. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-together.html

^this

The 4X4 box is similar to a 2X4 box but it has an extra mounting bolt hole.

Hopefully I can add a new twist to this. Ive been thinking a lot about it with the front clip off. If I come up with a solid set up, I'll post a step by step. Im a fabbing / welding sob, so..hopefully Ive got a new trick for the bag. Thanks for the posts.

Don't make it too hard, cause I might want to follow your example one day!

With a U.S manufactured box. will it be one readily available at most parts stores or most likely need to be ordered?

I thought I replied to this,,,must be losing it (again). I hope to assemble a kit using my truck as test vehicle. The kit will include brackets, shafts, u-joints, etc. Hoping to go with a basic, readily available, off the shelf of auto parts store box and pump, we will see. It will take a while amongst the other work and life stuff that gets in the way of what I really like to do, which is work on this slick, plus I have my eye on a truck in Montana a certain someone is trying to sell.. Keep ya posted.
