real time help

What tool is needed to lower spare tire on 1996 f250? Looks like a square ratchet of some kind but is the tool stored somewhere on the truck stock? I found the jack and lug wrench but nothing else.
thanks!

Okay opening this back up

I limped her home last night but still could not get the spare down.

The spare is held on by a thread rod not through center of tire but on the drivers side. That rod seems to turn by means of a square insert.

Perhaps this is the dumbest question ever posted to this forum - but what is "supposed" to be used to turn it?

Thanks
JT

The other end of the support bar should have an eyelet on the end of the threaded rod. You can use the lug wrench or a big screwdriver to loosen.
