New 6T9 F100 Ranger "SOUTHERN QUEEN"

Well there's another beauty to add to our Fordnation fleet. 1969 F100 Ranger comes from the south. Not to bad rust wise has surface rust but not much rot. Inner fender at battery needs patched or replaced. Both rear cab corners will need attention. Some on the bottom of doors in the jam and bed floor will need patched. Will need a new hood, grille, lower valance and bumper due to an accident from a PO from how it looks. Here's some pics and the start to this project need help on the questions in next post.

Congrats Crazed. How'd you get "another project" past the wife? Cool '69. I like the one year only Ranger woodgrain the best. Which is why I added it to my 68 Ranger. I painted my step bumper like that with a crinkle finish silver to help with boot slippage. Think 351W,268 cam,Holley 600,Eddy intake, medium stall, built AOD,4.11's,long tubes,2 1/2" pipes,Cherry Bombs, white paint with grey ghost flames,etc.,etc. Little instigator me............

Thanks it's not mine but I'll get to see it all the time and do work on it so I'm excited It has a 302 and auto trans not sure what kind though. I never had a 2wd so it's alittle different and I already have some I beam issues I need help with. I've always wanted a Ranger edition and the 69 i like the grille of most. Plans are simple get it running and driving right do body work and paint in the future. Most likely stock colors and a few add on's but mostly just a fun truck to cruise in.

Speaking of projects where's your build thread hahaha. I don't think I've seen any of yours sounds like a solid build.

When we went to pick it up there was no brakes. From what I gather there was drum brakes on it and they started to do a disc conversion? Any way to tell if it was factory drum without the build sheet under the seat? The front had 1 new and one used caliper on it along with 2 new rotors, pads and 2 new brake hoses here's a picture after taking off a wheel. The hoses weren't connected to the calipers because they would be to short once turned full lock to lock. Seen that they used the same calipers on both sides and hoses on wrong sides. After getting a new caliper from the auto store and getting the parts all swapped around right bled the system we have brakes. From my understanding on a 2wd If going from drum to disc you need everything from the spindle out is this right? Also in 69 it was a factory option for discs on a F100 right?

I have a (late) '69 F-100 Ranger. I'm currently in the process of installing front discs/I-beams from a '77 model F-100.

The '67-'72 F-100s didn't come with factory front disc brakes. That didn't happen on the F-100s until 1973 so, those discs were added.

Kingpin diameter of '73 and '74 F-100 is the same as '67-'72. In '75, the kingpin diameter and length was slightly increased from previous years.

^ Great bit of information I'm new to the 2wd scene. Since the kingpins are the same through 74 I'm guessing you can swap just the 73-74 disc spindle out onto the 69 and have disc brakes? Or do I beams need to swap to from the 73-74? I'm trying to get a better idea of how this conversion was done to this truck.

You are correct on the first part. '73/'74 disc components, from the spindles outward, can be swapped onto the existing '72 back to '65 I-beams and radius arms.

'65-'72 radius arms will be heavier cast steel components. '73-79 radius arms will be stamped steel units. The steel of the '73-'79 radius arms will be about about 3/8 inches in thicknesses.

cool new addition. Good luck with it.

Better clean out those vent/kick panel compartments. Passenger side looks about ready to rust through.

These are Dent brakes. I recognize the caliper retainer key, spring, and bolt. But I think the spring is supposed to point towards the caliper not the bolt. I could be wrong but I think the PO mounted it wrong.

Yes the spring/bar thing on that disk brake is in wrong.
It should be on the top of the slide lock.

Yea we got to clean out the cowl and drains. I seen the rust starting on the kick panel seam. The floors are pretty solid don't see any pin holes after doing the screwdriver test. My 71 wasn't so lucky I have to patch in some metal in the kick panel area from the floor up about 6 inches.

Thanks Jeff on the identification of the dent brakes. Are the single piston calipers interchangeable for the 73-79 f100's? Want to know incase They need replaced down the line.

Yea the PO told me he had a guy start a disc conversion on it. But the person doing it didn't know much about cars as you can see. So the owner told the guy to take a hike (clean version) hahaha. The spring/caliper slider is wrong. As soon as I took off the tires to see what all was needed to finish the brakes and seen that I shook my head and laughed.

Yep. 73/79 F100,150,250 with single piston calipers were all the same.
