T98 Health?

T98 Health?
I recently picked up a 1960 F100 with 292 yblock and a 4 on the floor. Iv not spent much time with the truck (awaiting delivery) but i am 98% sure its a T98 with syncro. It drives, but first and second whine quite loudly and finding 3rd is a bit of a hunt some times... 4th and reverse are fine. Is this normal or am I looking at a rebuild? I am used to manual transmissions but not old ones so not sure what I should be expecting.

Yours is worn.
Noise in first is normal, they whine a bit. 2/3/4 should be fairly quiet and easy to find.
The shifter itself, bushings if any, and shift forks are suspects. All can be checked and replaced with the trans in truck, from the top.
Bearings--time to pull the trans.
Parts:
Parts for the Borg Warner T98 Transmission
Borg Warner T98 4 Speed repair parts and overhaul kits. - Drivetrain

Thanks, it seems like novak is the way to go... There is a lot of slop in the shifter... (then again i am used to short throws on sports cars) and you have to bury the clutch peddle into the floor to shift. I was going to start with a fluid flush on trans and see if a clutch adjustment didn't make things better before i rip it all apart.
