I just went out to move my truck to take out garbage and it cranks but doesn't start. It is 4.6L 4WD. I sprayed ether in intake no change. Checked all fuses all good. It has been raining pretty hard the last 3 days and it has been sitting in rain all 3 days. I checked for codes with a simple code scanner no codes. But the code scanner I used is not able to do KOEO or KOER tests. I know it needs new plugs but it has never sputtered or died on me. Has slight misfire but not engine stopping. I havnt had any check engine lights or problems before.

 

So I was able to get a Ford IDS scan tool and do the KOEO test found no codes. Then I was able to get it started. I did the KOER test and found nothing. So I updated the software in the trucks computer. It seems to be running great again.

 

check the fuel pump controller under the spare tire. The aluminum case on the steel crossmember causes the aluminum to rot out. Mine was still fine electrically somehow, but was broken wide open. They can lead to intermittant starting issues and no starts. Dorman makes them now so you don't have to go to dealer and Dormans come with rubber stand offs

 

I will check that out.
