Color match for vintage VA license plate

This thread relates to one on how to paint vintage license plates. I have taken those suggestions and have started refurbishing the plates. I will try to update with pictures as it goes if possible.

My question here is more specific. Has anyone or someone you know done a color match for the white background of a 1955 Virginia license plate? Is there any website with the info?

My plates are old and the white background is no longer the same color as original (an off-white). This makes a color chip or computer match to the original difficult. An significant off-color would make the plate not look as it should after all the work put into refurbishing.

If anyone knows what the white background color match on a 55 VA plate is, I would appreciate it greatly.

Bruce,
It's probably not much help, but you can go to LICENSE PLATES OF THE WORLD and see a picture of the '55 plate. The only sure way to find out the color is to paint your plate and then wait for everyone to tell you that it's not correct.

I have an original brand new set of 64 plates still in the packaging that are black with white numbers/letters. Maybe it's the same white?? Or at least a close match.

Thanks. I will chip the Wimbledon white.

As Hawk said, no matter what I do a classic expert will say it is incorrect or not done properly. Kind of like things are at home at times.

I wished they were 56 plates. I need a good set of those black with white letter ones. I don't know if the whites are the same or not. The 55 white background looks a little more antique/off white and the whites of black with white might be a little more bright white. Really would be nice if your plates were 56 - aw shucks.

One old paint guy said to look at Arabian White from a 57 Chevy truck, but I don't know anyone with such a vehicle. I'll try online.

Bruce,
ebay has 4 plates for sale--all various shades, and that is without factoring in the distortion of the color in the photos and on the PC.
I would go to some local car shows...I bet you would see some or find someone that has one.
