Exhaust cleaning notification has stopped

I have a very confusing situation where I've noticed for the past two weeks my "cleaning the exaust " message hasn't appeared at all. I've filled the DEF up a week ago and I still do not recieve the message. After driving the same route to work everyday I pretty much know where to expect the message to come on but as I've stated previously, I'm getting nothing. The truck is not acting abnormal and I have not recieved an engine warning light. I've contacted two Ford mechanics and they told me don't worry about it. ( the warning light will come on if something truly is wrong. Has anybody experienced this with their F250 Superduty 2011 or newer ?

Thanks,

Roy

Sounds normal to me. You could also be missing a pop up message too.

Never had a routine where the truck went into regen at a certain spot on the highway. I have had it come up as I am pulling into my driveway a bunch of times though.

Are you running biodiesel? I noticed less frequent regents and more DEF use with B20.

I did with the 2012, but I assume it's because I run the same route nearly every day. Short trips will definitely cause more regens, so much so that I was getting a regen nearly every day. This 2015 seems to have a much wider soot level tolerance and also I am not using any fuel additives. I think I might have contaminated the catalytic portion of the exhaust filter by using some cetane boosters. The primary catalyst is what starts the whole process of burning out the soot by initiating a higher temperature. I watch my CTS closely and the EGT 2 temps are higher than what I saw with the 2012.

Regardless of the exact cause, I'm now getting 300-400 miles between regens with a lot of in-town driving as opposed to 50-100 miles in the 2012.

Wish I could help more... If you had a CTS you could see what is going on, but I wouldn't buy one just to find out.

Interesting lastwagen.

I don't see an issue here yet. While I know you are looking for the regen and it not there it could just be that you have some better fuel right now or maybe just your route has allowed it to passively regen more than normal.

You could take it out on a long drive and see if it will regen then but I honestly would not worry about it yet.

Thank you very much for the feedback. It has been quite awhile since I took it on a long roadtrip and my ride to work is only 35 minutes. 95%of the time I fill up at Shell and again today still no regen. The message I should be getting is something I definately notice and pay attention to but I will try to take it out on the Highway this weekend and see what happens.

If you are really dying to know, download the torque app onto your phone and program the thingee to read DPF % plugged and this will tell you what your DPF is doing. I use the app to see where my DPF is in terms of soot loading and watch EGT during hard towing. Its a $5 app and worth the piece of mind. The instructions for programming the app with F250 PIDs are here on the forum and work like a charm.

I agree with the Techs, if your truck is having DPF problems there are other messages the truck will display.

I also use the Android App “Torque Pro” to monitor. As RedneckTrucker posted, if you’re the type that has to know, it can give you piece of mind. If you already have an Android device, it cost $5 for the App and less then $20 for the Bluetooth OBD adapter. But then again ignorance is bliss.

For monitoring things, torque pro or forscan will work. I paid $5 for a ELM327 BT adapter shipped by Amazon. IIRC, doesn't the Edge CTS allow you to command a manual regen?

Wish another 'app' would allow it - since I really don't care about having a dashboard on all the time.

I never used the manual regen unless my 2012 got into a short cycle loop from a bunch of town driving. The manual regen would then really clean it up.

Haven't used it on the 2015 and hope I don't need to. If the "Drive to Clean Exhaust" (something like that) message comes on, then do a manual regen because you really don't need to drive. And... don't do it in your driveway on a Sunday morning because it sounds like a wood chipper.
