Pros & Cons of radiator recovery tank?

I have a stock 302 with aluminum radiator, electric fan, AC and wonder if I should put a recovery tank on it.

Closed system keeps the radiator completey full and eliminates spilling coolant unless you overheat. I cant see of any disadvantage.

Also reduces oxygen available to the system for corrosion. Go for it! Generally the tank needs to hold 5% of cooling system capacity.

No disadvantage to using one. I had to top off my radiator here and there before I installed one. Now, it's never down. Plus, you can install some cool whiskey bottle or whatever.

how recovery work?

Ok, I can understand the coolant going past the pressurized cap and going into the recovery tank. How does the coolant get sucked back back into the radiator? Does the radiator cap have a one way valve to let the coolant back in? Hmm.... Patrick

I just returned a Mr. Gasket tank today to Summit. Supposed to be polished aluminum but turned out to be chrome plated over something. Magnet will stick to it lightly so don't know if they can plate over aluminum. It had about 12 bubbles under the chrome. Brackets are a throw-away deal. I went ahead and ordered a Vintage Air from Summit which looks to have good mounts and I haven't seen any of there stuff that was junk!

Yes, there is a vacuum release valve in the center of the cap. Whether you use a recovery tank or not, you have to have that or the radiator tank would collapse as the radiator cools. With a recovery tank, it lets water back in instead of air.
