One thing I've always done with overloaded ac circuits to limit the surge (on my rv with less than 50 amp service)
is always turn the fan on first and let it stabilize before turning on the compressor...
might not save THAT much, but better than tripping breakers
(and I HAD one of those vans with the ac in the back window !!!!)
