On the way home from picking my kids up at school, the engine started making a ticking noise that seems to be from the right side valve cover.

What do you guys think? Lifters? The dreaded exhaust manifold leak?

 

It could be a problem associated with the thermactor assembly on that side of the engine.


Should be easy to disconnect/plug control vacuum to check.

 

Doesn't sound "meaty" enough to be an exhaust leak.

If it isn't an exhaust leak, it could be a valve.

Is the noise stronger from one side or the other?

Does the clicking get faster as your RPM's go up?

Did it begin all of a sudden or has it been a gradual increase in volume?
