Odd DEF Problem

Last month (a few thousand miles ago) I got the xxx miles to empty DEF message while on a weekend trip. By the time I got home I think it was complaining about 300 miles to go. I filled the DEF tank with 2 - 2.5 gallon Blue DEF containers. Yesterday I got the 800 miles to empty DEF message. So today I bought 2 more containers thinking I must have been mistaken about putting in 5 gallons last time. I put in one container, no problem. As soon as I tried pouring in the second container the DEF ran out of the filler neck. I waited a few minutes and tried again. It ran out again. I started the truck, initiated a system check and it says DEF level is ok. I tried one more time and still the fluid ran out. So...what is going on? Was the initial message in error? I can't get any more fluid in it and if it really was that close to empty it should take more than 2.5 gallons to fill it. Very odd.

sounds to me like the 800 miles to empty was in error.

You should have gotten the less then 1/2 full warning first.

Get the ford filler spout and then you won't have it pour down the side of the truck anymore. It seals in the spout and will simply not allow more to go in when full.

Save and reuse it.
