I just watched Urban Cowboy, and noticed that "Bud" (John Travolta) drives a black F150. Can anyone help me identify the year, specs., etc.?

It's been a while since I've seen that show (it was made in 1980!), but I think that truck was a 1979 Lariat. I could be wrong though???

actually i think its a79 ranger but thats not a big difference,it is definitaly a 150 though.

 

It's the 79 F150 Ranger. Just like mine, only mines a 78 with a slightly different package. And pretty sure Bud's truck is a 4x4.

 

it could be aF150 78 or 79 but it is a lariat 2wd, check it out when they are fighting in the parking lot of the diner!!!

Regardless, the 79's and earlier were some fricken tough.

 

The main thing I remember about that movie is Debra Winger riding the mechanical bull!

Bucket seats killed off so much of American car romance---gosh how I miss those days!

 

Bud's truck was sold by the studio to my friend's father, who is Peter Cullen, yes the same Peter Cullen that is the voice of Optimus Prime. He gave the truck to his son, my childhood friend Clay Cullen. It has been several years since I've seen Clay, so I can't say for sure that he still owns the truck.

 

I looked it up on a site called imcdb.org and it's a 1978 Ford F-series. Only reason I had to looked it up is because my girlfriend bought my a model of a 1978 Ford and I wanted to do the model the way it was in the movie but wanted to make sure It was the right truck. As far as specs on it I don't know
