I am considering purchasing a used TT or 5er. I have owned both and prefer the 5er. I do have a topper that would add extra storage if I went the TT route.

I will be towing in hot climate (So Cal, AZ, NV). I did recently add a TruCool Max trans cooler and have water, volts, and trans temp gauges. New radiator, thermostat, hoses, belts, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor.

What are things to consider towing these to types of rigs with the older truck I have? I don't want anything over GVWR of 10,000#.

1. Can truck handle it well and safely?

2. Can my truck bed accommodate a 5er hitch? Any issues? If I go 5er I want a hitch that completely hides under bed when not in use

3. Any other things to consider?

Thanks
I had a 91 F250 SCLB 2x4 460 E4DO 4.10 with a Trailer Towing Package and I pulled a 12K 5th wheel without any problems. I added a Banks Cat Back exhaust system and it increased the pulling power and a Banks Auto Mind for the transmission. It's been a long time ago so I can't remember any pin weights and it was before anyone cared about GCWR. The weak link was the transmission IMO. One thing I do remember was it had a very healthy appetite for fuel. I bought it hardly used 5 years old with 3600 miles (not a typo) and traded it at 53K for our 2000 V10 DRW.

Please keep in mind I am not in any way recommending this, but it speaks to the OBSs capabilities.
We just hauled 11,900 pounds of concrete in a 4,300 pound gooseneck dump trailer plus four adults with our '94 F250. That is somewhere north of 22,000 GCW. No handling, braking or power issues other than it reaffirmed the need for new rear shocks. Now, I wouldn't want to haul that much cross country, but 12-13k is surely no problem, at least for the chassis.

Did Ford put the wiring harness set up for a 7 pin connector in trucks back in 92?

Something you might have to wire in, knowing an electric brake controller is required.

Yeah, it was a 7 pin back then. My 2000 came with a 6 pin but my 3 obs all came with 7.

Yes, and they were pins, not blades. I changed it over to the 7 pin RV blade style.

Well. it appears that I have some decisions to make....
1. TT or 5er?
2. Go for what I want or go for what I can safely tow?
3. I want this..2015 Eagle HT 29.5BHDS | Jayco, Inc.
Can my current truck tow this safely?

I will probably get a newer truck in 3-5 years, but for now I have what I have.

Dilemma...The TT will allow me to use my topper for storage and will be less pin weight. However the TT makes for an overall longer tow set up given the same length trailer.... as 3-4 feet sits over truck bed with a 5er.

Thoughts??

tongue weight on that TT is probably 950 lbs. So can the tires support the additional weight and can the receiver?

I would say yes.

If your truck is in good shape it will have no problem with that trailer, any storage lost will be gained in the basement area. TT don't have that much storage so the truck bed has to be used. 5th wheels are also far superior when it comes handling when towing.
