Hello, I have a 1987 6.9 idi and yesterday I was messing around and turned up the injector pump 3 flats. I was wondering if that was enough that I should get a pyrometer
I did not drive it anywhere like tht just around the block and they after I was told tht I parked it and just turned it back down to where it is normally
Just take it easy an watch your smoke, you will be fine until your Pyro comes.... EGT's are an issue if you hold them there for extended periods. As long as you aren't turning the day to night, and your coolant temps are staying decent, its not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.

This. I turned mine up 3 flats, and unless you full throttle it with a lot of smoke, you won't hit 1200 degrees EGT. I got close with a full load up a good grade driving through Montana, but never hit it.
still you need to put the pyro in so you know before it stops running, if you hold 1000 plus for an extended period of time, I use the 1200 mark as a governor, it can hurt the valves.
