back in the fight, and a thank you

recently some of you have seen my posts about my trucks problems. well 2 weeks and $1300 later, she's on the road again. gave up and took it to a local diesel shop. 3 of the 8 injector cups were cracked, passenger side uvch had a short, uvc connector on the driver side had cracked inside the housing for the pins, so the pins had wiggled around and managed to burn a couple. ended up replacing all 8 cups, both uvch's, one uvc connector, rechecked the torque on the heads, resealing the sticks, flushing the coolant, replacing the stat, replacing the degas bottle(it actually collapsed when they were evacuating the coolant), and will be replacing the radiator and heater hoses in the next few days. hard way to learn a lesson about buying a used 7.3. But I also learned a lot about symptoms and diagnosing problems. Thanks to all of you guys and gals for helping me with this rig. Turns out just about EVERYBODY was right, just didn't expect that much to be wrong with it. But now we're back in the fight and I don't have to cruise around in the wife's escape anymore

Just got done reading about your trials and even though its over a month late want to congratulate you on getting all that work done for $1300. In hindsight, I would have jumped on this. I recommend anyone dealing with cups to either buy the tools right out or take it in to have done. Renting them from Clay sometimes takes over a month, and then if you get a faulty tool like I did your job will be botched and you'll have to pay again to rent them and wait another couple weeks. I ended up doing mine and renting the tools 3 times before I had them in right.

Tools and kit from Riffraff is about $450.
The awesome bit that Tugly uses in his rotary tool to clean the bore can't be more than $10. The whole kit (tool and attachments) could probably be had for less than $50.
The awesome video Tugly made for doing his cups the and the video he has helping BWST is free and restores faith in humanity.

For all my time and headaches, not to mention $150 in tool rental costs, months with no family truckster, and eventually buying a different kit on ebay, I wish I would have found a mech to do the work you had done for that price.

Just a jump-in to say "Thank you" for all those kind words, but I also want to mention how many other brothers I've watched step up for others. The brotherhood is a lighthouse of humanity.

Congratulations on getting the truck back - and on that price! I remember how I felt after finishing the cups... what a load to put behind you.

My wife's coworker was quoted that for an ICP sensor and pigtail replacement, and CAC boots.

I was going to dive in and do it myself but at that price I'm glad I didn't. I'm not sure I would have caught all of the other problems besides the leaky cups. Hopefully this'll be the last big repair I have to handle. the wife is already regretting letting me buy this truck, and honestly I am too. Got another issue to sort out but we'll get to that in another thread soon.
