Best Tires for Highway Towing
Forgive me if this hasn't already been discussed, I have an '11 F350 KR 6.7 4WD SRW with 275/65-20 tires. I'm needing to replace them and I was wondering what the original tires were that came on the truck, it has Terra Grapplers on it from the previous owner which are way too loud. I'm going to use the truck for highway towing and I want to get the tires that will last the longest while still providing a smooth quiet ride and not break the bank(if such a deal exists). I've browsed all of the major tire dealers to price shop but no one can really give me a "best choice" yet. Any help would be appreciated!

When I had a lot of highway towing to do I chose Michelin LTX M/S2. I had an issue with balance that was solved quite easily by finding a shop with a Hunter machine. They are all season rib type tires, very stable on the road and very quiet. Very good in snow too, although you wouldn't think it to look at them. I was parked in a snow drift over the front bumper, and I just put it in 4wd and drove out. Probably would suck in mud, though

General tires used to be junk. But a few years ago they have made an effort to change that. I haven't ran any recently, but I'm seeing more and more of them around. Maybe they figured it out....

I don't have General tires on my 2010 F350, but have a set of General "Grabber AT's on my 1990 Dodge Power Ram 1500. I've found them to be excellent, with great traction in snow and mud, comparable performing with much more expensive BFG All Terrain for traction and tread life.

I've had Generals on my F150 and had no problems with them. I have BFG All-Terrains on my SD with no problems. The reviews I have read on Tire Rack's site have not been good for General in the E rated tires. P metric ratings for General have been good. The E rated tires were mostly made in Mexico and the P metrics in the USA. That might explain the quality difference. Also as a side note, BFG is owned by Michelin.

The best tire I have ever had for highway use was the Nitto Dura Grappler. This a really tough tire and by looking at it you would think it would be bad in wet conditions but it was really good in wet and snowy conditions, better than the Michelins that came with my truck. Also I would recommend the Cooper AT3 Discoverer if you decide to go with something a little more aggressive.

Michelin LTX M/S2. I have had great luck with them on three different Excursions and now a 7.3 F350 dually. You can expect 80-85k miles as long as you don't abuse them. I live in and tow in the mountains. I would imagine they could get better mileage in the flat lands...not as much hard pulling and braking. They are great in snow and decent in mud and are very quiet.
