This is what it cost to build - sit down first before opening this thread

This is the actual cost to resto-mod my 62 F100. The truck was built 100% by me to suit my tastes. I did not use a lot of used pieces. This was my first paint job and I had to "outfit a paint shop" in my garage to do it. I painted 1 piece at a time and used 3 1/2 years to complete the project. The 223 six engine was subjected to a full rebuild, including overbore, mild cam, porting and CCing of heads, oversize valves, full Clifford package etc etc all in the name of "something different" under the hood. The interior was custom made by LaBaron Bonney. The dash cluster was custom made by AutoMeter to my specs.

Additional pictures at thread - "Finished and on the road again" dated 8-8-2014

The smallest single purchase was $.14 for a single machine nut. The largest single purchase was for the seats and the carpet at $1127.00.

Others will build them different and spend more (see theastronaut thread) and some will spend less (almost everybody) - that's what makes the hobby unique. I got what I wanted in the end.
So take a deep breath and see below:

Hardware -(nuts bolts etc mostly stainless steel) $346
Misc tools - (drill bits, sanders, air saws, small cabinet blaster etc) $928.84
Paint and Supplies (from stripper to finish paint and all in between)$4073.48
Shipping charges for parts $1156.47
Auto body (sheet metal, patches and welding supplies) $700.75
Shop Manuals $116.90
Interior - (seat covers, headliner, carpet, door handles etc) $2207.92
Electrical -(harness kit, alternator, switches, power windows) $2236.14
Brakes (convert to power discs all new parts) $878.06
Fuels system - (tank clean, sender, hoses, pipes) $202.86
Engine - (mentioned above and even more stuffed in it) $5172.95
Cargo bed (new wood, strips, bolts) $878.87
Restoration parts (DC, Green Sales, NPD, Carolina Classics, etc) $1766.99
Glass (new all around with rubbers, fuzzies etc etc) $1022.43
Misc ( I don't know what these were) $97.15
Services (primarily sandblasting of big pieces) $887.71
Exhaust (converted to duals) 478.13
Transmission (surprisingly good shape) $248.40

TOTAL - A little over $23,000 - good luck with yours - mine's done......

That is friggin awesome. And...I fully expect to spend the same and more on mine, worth every dollar if you build it to suit yourself. Nice job!!!!

That is a nice looking truck and a good job. I have one issue. You need to post at least 15 more pictures. Inside outside under the hood the full thing. Lets see them

Yeah, that's really nice. I like that you built a six - I'd love to hear it! There are a ton of receipts in my '62 folder that need to be added up. I think. Congratulations on your truck!

Beauty!

I have a '63 Flareside but that cool green was my original color - that is one badass ride! ... And it only cost you $2300!!!! (What? Add a zero? Don't let my wife see this!) NICE! My next one will aspire to this standard!

Great looking truck. I am doing exact rebuild on my 1965 F-100. Motor, body off frame, bodywork, interior and drivetrain all done by owner. Stripped and epoxy painted complete truck one piece at a time. Hope to spray color next summer. You get more satisfaction when you do it yourself. I am keeping an expense sheet as you did, we have about the same numbers. Again great looking Truck.

That is one beautiful truck! I've slowly been working on my own, but it is still a bit far from being drivable.

I am very interested in how you did the 3 point seat belts. Safety upgrades are always a plus.

I refused to keep a price list on mine. I've been working on mine for about ten years. It was never a frame off build.
My price tag is around $26,000.00 it's done my way and has always been a driver.
Building cars/trucks or just hot rods, money can get way out of hand. keeping to a plan helps minimize the cost, but what fun is that.
These are my fourth seats in my truck and hopefully the last. (Do I include the cost of each set of seats?)
I've had like 5 grilles on my truck (Do I include the cost of each grille?) I know this is the last grille.........maybe!
We always want something better, but in all honesty, stick to a plan and do it as quick as possible.

Very nice. Ive seen plenty of these trucks with more than 23k in them that aren't near as nice as yours. Money well spent.

Any idea how many labor hours you put into it?
