This question is for Sailor Roy or anyone who pulls a long trailer
Am looking at getting this:
and was thinking..... what if you mounted the camera on the back of the trailer, ran a 20' (shorter if that length is not needed) and hooked that to the transmitter (mounted closer to the front of the trailer). Then mounted the reciever near the back of the truck and ran another video cable to the monitor/radio in the cab. This would negate the distance issue with the TX/RX range of the units (supposedly around 20' max).
Thoughts or suggestions on this idea are more than welcome.
FYI... I already have a camera on the bumper and am installing one close to the 3rd brakelight to see the gooseneck hitch on mine.

One of the people on that site said this.. "Mine is on a horse trailer towed behind a deisel pickup with oversize slide in camper and works pretty reliably. Effecitive range free air is maybe 40ft with vehicle in between much less. Get antennas as high and clear or through glass as possible."
Hope that helps with your distance concern...

Yes that would work just fine.
Lanny has a good point too. You may not need to do anything special.
I am going to put a backup camera on the back of my 5th wheel. I intend to use it for backup, but also for traveling. I want to see what is behind me.
If I need to......I will run the video coax cable to the front of the trailer. connect the wireless transmitter.
Hope that helps........
