Shell T5 10-30 + Archoil 9100 ...Just back from 2200 mile unexpected trip
I changed oil about 2 weeks ago and put in Shell T5 10-30 and 16 oz of Archoil 9100. I bought the T5 10-30 only because it was on sale for $13.99 a gallon. I had put about 500 miles on it with local driving...no issues.
Got the call that grandma had died, 1100 miles away in Dayton, Ohio. I seriously thought about dumping the oil, not knowing if I should run it on a trip like that. We had 5 passengers, and a bunch of luggage. I also packed about 50 lbs of tools...just in case.
I had no issues...drove through the mountains on I-75, and got 17.6 -18.1 mpg loaded down. ECT ran 201-204 and EOT 210 -216 for 18 hours straight, stopping for fuel and 1 meal. <--- two trips like that.
So if you're considering using T5 10-30 , I just put it through a good stress test on a 6.0 ( I dont know if I would tow heavy using 10-30 oil)

Archoil 9100 is fine for towing, I'm not sure any 10-30 oil is though.
Someone who has done heavy towing with 10-30 would have to convince me it's ok to use.

I'll send in a virgin sample as well, so we can compare new T5 10-30 with my truck's T5 10-30 + Archoil 9100 sample.

Guys,
if you haven't seen the following, it's good info on oil grade differences. It's not by any one manufacturer so it's not a sales pitch.......
It gives a good synopsis on "why" the move to lower viscosity oils for over the road trucks. The interesting part is that they talk a little about operating temperature vs oil viscosity. (the "big" number in oil ratings)

I think I'm gonna switch to 100% Synthetic 10-30. Oil sample reports and 80+ pages of people running the t5 10-30 in the 6.0 since 2010 below....and people towing 10k + with T5 10-30.

When you say your truck didn't like it, what did you notice in when you were running t6 and when you switched?

Both my trucks have always been this way:
-Neither one likes Motorcraft, anything Shell Rotella, or Valvoline.
-The 7.3 prefers Chevron Delo, Castrol Tection Extra, Mystic 15W40
-The 6.0 prefers Mobil 1 5W40 so far
