It's possible, you'd need a bell housing from an IDI. And I believe the gear spread on the gasser T19s are different, but I don't know if that would affect drive-ability or not.

Of course you'd be loosing the OD, the better option, if it's an option for you, would be to find a 5 speed. But if it's just a gotta make it work situation it wouldn't be hard to do what you're asking as long as you have the proper bell.

Yep! the gear ratio for first is different but that is the only difference. A gasser has a lower 1st gear (around 6:1 ratio) while the diesel has a higher first gear (around a 4:1 ratio) the gasser trans is still very usable in a diesel but it is nice to be able to use the closer ratio to take off from a stop.

My truck is a man trans t19, or t18? Anyway it's a great trans and I wouldn't swap it for any auto trans, (except maybe a 5spd man trans ZF) but what gearing is in your axles?
Are you running larger tires?
These ^ are going to make a big difference with that 4spd's shift points, and how much shifting in town you're going to have to do plus your highway speeds/rpm's,
Just something to consider..

If it has a synchro on first it is a T-19 that is the easiest way to tell.

1987 truck would have a T-19B (B meaning close-ratio).

I always thought a T-18 or T-19A - wide ratio tranny - with the 3.07 (or is it 3.06?) gearing would be a cool combination. Only four gears to shift through, but a final drive comparable to an overdrive with 3.55s.

To the OP - is your truck a 4x4? Is the donor truck a 4x4?

you'll also have to change the drive shafts and trans cross member, what is wrong with the e4od.

Flywheel: No, they are balanced differently,(and possibly different bolt pattern) you need a flywheel for the IDI and specifically since yours is a 94 (assuming your motor is a 93 or 94) it has to be for an 93 or 94 IDIT. The good for you news, is since the dual mass flywheels had issues, it is easy to get a clutch/flywheel kit.

I am not sure on the engines that had a zf5 behind them due to different input shaft size, but my 86 6.9 has the same bolt pattern and spacing on the flexplate as the 85 460 I parted out.

Quick thought: you may have to buy the flywheel and clutch kit separately if you want to use the t-19 as it has a different input shaft size than the zf5 and the 93-94 clutch/flywheel kits come with the clutch disk for the zf-5

The 88 flywheel is balanced differently. It will not work.

Yes, it will fit. I just compared the 460 clutch and the 6.9 clutch I have in back. they are the same.
