clutch fork and the steering issues

Hey Guys. I'm putting a 390 (came with the T18 4 speed) into my 59 F100 . I'm stuck because the clutch fork and the steering (manual) box want to take up the same space. Id like to keep it a 4 speed (on the floor) - perhaps another manual tranny might work? Ideas to get around it .... Thanks Much!

Would a hydraulic throw-out bearing work for you? It would remove the clutter on the side of bell housing.

I originally had a 390 and three speed trans in my 60, clutch fork shouldn't be anywhere near the steering box. Changing trans won't help the fork is in the bell housing and that dimension will be the same regardless of what trans..

Thanks for the responses. I'll look into the throw out bearing suggestion.

The 390 and T18 tranny came out of a 68 F100. The 59 F100 i'm putting it into was just a shell when I bought it. So I'm trying to utilize the clutch linkage from the 68 and that is where the problem is not necessarily the clutch fork.

What trans do you have in your 60?

Clutch linkage makes more sense then clutch fork so I see the problem. When I first built the truck I had a 390 with a light duty three speed ( stock trans for the truck ) but I used the stock hydraulic clutch set up with a slave cylinder. I had to have a mount for the slave welded to the bell housing. I don't know of any way to use mechanical linkage in these chassis..

Thanks Jim. Off to the salvage yard to see what I can find. I will say the fabrication is the best part this restore. Regards, Kevin
