Massive oil temp spike, oil cooler going bad?

Was pulling trailer empty, GCVW was just a hair under 15K, prior I was just under 29K loaded and no issue. Anyway coming back empty with cruise set at around 75mph and I always check the Minimax (set on NO Power) from time to time. All the sudden I notice my EOT is 250, ECT was normal at 209 and Tranny was 189, Can't remember EGT but I wasn't hammering on it.

I never got a warning from the truck and I quickly slowed to 60mph and the temp steadily dropped. After a few miles I was down under 220 and I remained around 70mph and EOT stayed 10-15 degreees over ECT. Had to stop for a minute and both temps came down to the 190's like normal. Got back on the road and everything was normal, ECT and EOT never differed more than 6 degrees and that was going 65mph against a good headwind and a fair grade for 15 miles.

I should mention the Air filter alarm went off at the start of this trip and I did know it was getting close to tripping before hand. Oil was changed about 500 miles ago with 15w40 ( was running 5w40 ), level is good. I have been smelling a little burning oil since the change and I think it is just the little bit that fell out of the filter and right on top of the engine when I changed it. When I got back I blew apart all the radiators/coolers and there is a lot of debris, mainly between radiator and AC condenser.

I thought with the updates I should have gotten an engine shutdown with that kind of a temp difference. Truck was just at the dealer for belt tensioners and some front end work.

Forgot to mention 124K miles been deleted since 100K.

Sure sounds like an oil cooler to me.

What tuner?

When you deleted, there's a possibility, the version of the flash was before the 11B23 was introduced by the tuner manufacturer setting your PCM back to pre-update.

H&S minimax, pulled all the radiators yesterday and got all the crap out from between them. Went out today and the temps fluctuate a lot more than they used to but EOT and ECT never separated more than about 5 after warm up. Yes I put the minimax on after 11B23 came out.

I deleted at about 5,000 miles... 11B23 came out a short time after. I reinstalled the DPF to get the new flash, then deleted again with H&S's newest update and have the newest update to date. There was a very short period afterwards that I put the DPF back on, I don't recall the reason, after re flashing the PCM back to "Stock-DPF-On" I noticed this....

<a href="http://s68.photobucket.com/user/westwoodlands/media/3c110bd6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i34/westwoodlands/3c110bd6.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 3c110bd6.jpg"/></a>

I concluded that H&S's base program did not include the 11B23 update. In fact, it was a very old PCM flash that at one point, allowed these trucks to regen in park.
