New (to me) V10 in Class C Motorhome

I'm new to this forum, but a very long-term (since 2003) contributor to the Excursion and 6.0L forums.

My wife and I are flying to Florida this week to pick up a 'new to us' 2008 Coach House 272XLFD (Class B+ or C) motorhome, with only 17,700 miles on the chassis. The MH has the 6.8L V10 and 5 speed Torqshift built on the E450 Cutaway. The dually rear axle is 4.56 ratio. I'm actually new to the V10 and don't know much about it. The Torqshift is the same as in my 2005 Excursion. The GVWR is 14,500 lb, with a GCWR of 20,000 lb.

I'm assuming (a dangerous thing) that the V10 is much easier to care for than my 6.0L has been.

By the way, we hope to keep the 6.0L Excursion and our big travel trailer. We enjoy that setup for family trips. The Coach House will be our 'fast getaway' RV.

Any advice on what to look out for prior to 1200 mile trip back to Tulsa?

We just bought our RV with the V10. After initial trials I got the 5star tune and it definitely is a good thing. Mileage will be about 8 if you are lucky, ours got as high as 9.5-10 flat ground towing a 13 hyundai elantra on our 1st trip towing. yes its the same trans but the engine is totally different. will go to high rpms (4500-5000) in a heart beat and that is why I went with the tuner. Check the tires if michelins they have a recall for some so check them out. I got 7 new tires but the oems only had 4000 on them! I am considering installing a free flow muffler and try to figure out a better intake system. Mine likes to wander so if you have air bags in rear run them up to about 50psi even empty With a load I went to 70 psi. supposedly the front ends need an alignment to +5deg caster so check out the good sam class c rv site. BTW mine is a B+ winnebago.

I looked for 6.0 rv found a couple but wife said 1 too short, the other was of questionable care. We also have an 04 6.0 F350 for our TT.

Thanks for all the good information. Which Michelins are the problem? I have LTX M/S2 on my Excursion and really like them...

I do have air bags on rear axle. I wonder if there is an anti-roll bar on back axle as well?

They were the michellin ms I cant remember the designator. Go over to michellin.com I think it is and look there. The M&S 2 are the replacements. There is a sway bar, but hellwig is supposed to be better. Have looked at them but $$ short right now. Better shocks are supposedly also needed, but the alignment is the biggest issue supposedly. Havent been able to find a shop out here yet, asked at the dealer and got kinda blank stare!
