Fan clutch removal 94 f150 4.9
Im changing the waterpump on my dads truck and idk how to get the fan clutch off. Ik i have to unscrew the big nut but theres no room to fit a wrench in there with the 4 bolts holding the pulley on the hub. And the bolts are too long to get out. There must be a special tool to remove these or is there any other tricks.

I had a b*tch of a time with mine. Basically I managed to get the bolts out of the water pump in order to work on the fan clutch bolts on the bench. With the help of my uncle's air chistle, we got the water pump and fan clutch apart. I think you need a 40mm wrench (it needs to be thin too) to get the big nut off if I remember correctly. Good luck.

And the nut on the fan is reverse thread.
I changed the belt, and fan clutch, when changing the water pump.
using high temperature sealant around the new water pump and gasket.
I went back and changed the belt tensioner later because the belt was squeaking, the belt tensioner bushing was worn out.
get you a magnetic catch tray and keep up with all the bolts.

Not all 4.9l engines are reverse thread on the fan clutch. Mine is not and it said that on the fan shroud. Once I got the water pump out I was able to look at the back of the nut, I was able to confirm this as well. There are two nut sizes, but I can't remember at the moment. Maybe 36mm and 40mm?
