Mystery connection in engine bay

While changing my spark plugs yesterday I came across a plug-in connector that wasn't connected to anything. The PO had zip tied it to the throttle cable to keep it from dangling. Here's a pic:

It's on the drivers side and ultimately ties into the large wire loom that runs along the drivers side of the engine.

Any ideas what it is? I looked around for a little while to see if I could figure out what it used to plug into and didn't find anything. But I was short on time and gave up after a few minutes. If you know what it's to, any ideas why the PO would have unplugged it? Makes me nervous that there's a problem that he was trying to fix the easy way instead of the correct way.

Thanks for any help/insight you can provide!!

Or would Ford have used a standard wire loom with all harnesses for both A/C and non-A/C trucks and this is just a vestigial connector?

Correct, they didn't make different harnesses for different options. There are a lot of unused connectors.
