What do I do Now?

Ignition Key thing

Jumped into the truck today and this came off in my hand
Do I have to buy a new Ignition switch and door cylinders to
fix this or am I overlooking a simple fix?

My dad's 1992 F-150 did that...260,000 miles though.

Doesn't cause an issue; just makes the key more susceptible to breaking.

But yeah and new Ignition Lick Cylinder is the only recourse at this point.

Frankly it's not a big deal to me, to have 1 ignition key and 1 key for the doors...

But that's just me and with my truck.

Um... you had to tap it in? Like with a mallet??

It should take less than a minute, and no tapping involved. Right under the key cylinder there'a small hole. You turn the key to RUN, then stick a pick or other small item in that hole and push up on the release button. The cylinder pulls straight out after that, then you push the new one in the same way.

I hope you didn't smash that new cylinder in there with a BFH...

No BFH, the old key wouldn't stay in the cylinder so pulling it out was a pita, then the new one came apart in my hands so I walked back into O'riparts and asked for a new one the simply handed me another, the old cylinder did not have a nipple to hold it into place the new one did it was a bit to get it started then as I slid it in the column was in the way for one of the sleeves and pushed it of center and bound it in place. I used the handle of my screwdriver "the one I used to push up on the release button" to tap not beat it into position.

I also must tell you I am in no way a mechanic just learning as I go, I'm just happy I did it by myself.

you full frame off resto guys have my respect.
