won't start - need help!!!
2000 Ford excursion xlt 4x4 v-10 167,000 miles.
Started having problems with the truck starting when the outside temps got above 80. The truck cranks fine but acts like its not getting any fuel.
So I just replaced the fuel pump and the fuel pump relay and it will still not start.
I removed the fuel filter and when I turn on the ignition I can hear the pump come on for a few sec. but no gas is getting to the filter.
not sure where to go from here?
Please help!!!

Did you clean or replace the idle control valve? When it is dirty and isnt closing all the way, you loose vacuum and it won't start... Pretty common problem and pretty simple fix... Tell tale signs are the engine firing and then shutting off. You didn't say what you have for a power plant....

raven,
you will need to do some diagnostic work based on suggestions from projectsh089 . For example , compressed air blow from fuel filter fitting -to - engine fuel rail(60 -80 psi not more than that ) when there is a gage attached to fuel rail (may be 2 person job). Do you see any pressure ? . Do the same test to the other direction ,towards gas tank .
Another suggestion , hook up your fuel pump directly to your truck battery (may be 2 person job) . Is it really working ? do you have any pressure at the rail ?
Good luck,

Ok first of all I would like to thank you all for the help!!!!
it ended up being the new fuel pump. the fuel pump work fine but the plastic piece that connected to the the top of the pump was cracked. so it would pump some fuel through the line but most of it was just going back in the tank. Replaced the whole thing with a new one and it runs great.
again thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I know this tread is old, but I have been searching through everything looking for a fix to my Excursion suddenly not starting, here was my fix:
It was my key! If you have a second key, or generic key, it might be the actual key you are using. It's worth a shot!
I just spent my entire Memorial Weekend Friday troubleshooting why my 2001 6.8L Limited Excursion will suddenly not start! It would only crank, like it was out of gas. Battery is strong.
Two years ago I had to replace the fuel pump and it's acting that way again!
I have tried listening for the fuel pump while turning the ignition on but only hear a slight mechanical "mmmm relentt" sound that lasts maybe .5 of a second.
I bit the bullet, dropped the tank and replaced the fuel filter inside the gas tank BY MYSELF (quite proud of that) but very frustrating to get it all back together 5 hours later and STILL NOTHING!!
I couple of years ago, we had Lowes cut us a chipped key. It does not get used often but I was using it today when I tired to pull my car out of the garage.
Now, I can sit in the car, the Lowes key will crank, but not fire and the original key will start it every time!
I hope your fix is as easy! This car has 160,000 and runs like a champ
I needed to spread the good news.
