Looks like fun, I take it you have a lift to get the cab off.

I think you can do the cam with just lifting the cab a few inches and taking the hood and the front off myself.

A friend who has a service truck with a crane came for supper one day and we quick lifted it off before supper.

The camshaft comes out the rear of the engine. So if that is possible with cab on, the transmission would need to be removed to access rear engine cover. You would then either remove the heads, or use 16 magnets to hold the lifters clear of the cam in order to remove it. My plan was to replace all the lifters, and since I am too cheap to remove the heads unless I need to, I opted to remove engine, stand it up on its front, remove oil pan, and after pulling cam, remove lifters from the bottom using a magnet. I guess the real joke is gonna come when I try to put the new lifters in from the bottom...

Keep in mind the 6.4 was a very limited run motor. About 3.5 years worth of production.

Of all the trucks on the road where I live there are many out there.

Quite a few are diesels in those years too. (red emblem gives them away).
How long has the 6.7 been out in comparison? not much longer.

yeah so 2008, 2009, 2010 = 6.4

2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 = 6.7

2015 now, but just a few of those sold so far, relatively.

Ever notice how hard it is to find info on trucks or engines for medium duty trucks? Cause they're working and don't play on forums talking about how to install an aftermarket air filter and how to get more power.

Yeah thats a factor too I'm sure.

I'd say the 6.7 is a more successful engine, I mean even if it isn't quite as strong as a tuned 6.4, it drives so great right off the lot, I think a lot of people don't even feel the need for a tuner.

That said, there is still a crap ton of 6.4's ripping around.
