302 EFI truck vs. GT40 Mustang intake
I have a question for you guys who have experience with this matter. I have way too much time on my hands and am trying an experiment for fuel economy. What I'm trying is a non-liquid fuel system, I will be feeding vapor directly through the intake. It is my first thought, that a GT40 intake with it's centralized throttle body and angled runners should provide a much less turbulent flow vs. the stock truck intake, not to mention the single TB would be easier to work with. Specifically what I'm asking, is how the flow rates compare, and am I correct in assuming the GT40 would have a smoother flow with less turbulence? Thanks in advance.

The tubular GT40 intake and the truck 5.0 flow similar numbers as cast but the truck is capable of significantly more flow with some simple porting, and the Explorer intake and other GT40 cast aluminum variants flow less then both of the above two. I don't see the GT40 intakes producing less turbulence.. the air has to make a U turn to get to the runners while it just makes a right turn in the truck intake, but I don't see turbulence being a hugh issue either way.

I was just thinking that the GT40 intake would reduce turbulence since the runners are already angled toward the heads, and the truck and other Mustang intakes flow down and have to make a 90 degree bend, and that the central TB would provide a nice even flow. This thing will not be running a gas supplement, it will be running on pure vapor, no liquid gasoline whatsoever. It will need to be plumbed directly into the throttle body and the air controlled by a secondary valve. Unless I can come up with a "cleaner" method. Like I said, it's a project I'm working on. The science is there, it's just down to can it actually be done. I'm just trying to piece together the best parts to utilize for such a system.
