i really don't understand what the fascination with the gold plated turd cumming engine is.
i have yet to see one that is worth anything more than it's weight in scrap metal.

Well everybody mistakes sooner or later.
My buddy has a 07 cummins that he has replaced 3 transmissions in the 315K miles the last one lasted him 4K miles. Hence why he has it on craigslist.

Sometimes in life we make poor decisions. How those around us react to the decision can make all the difference between a healthy turn around or a continued spiral down the drain. Perhaps we should get together and stage an intervention. You know... We love you man, this is for your own good.

Interesting way of putting this. Cummins builds only the engine as a supplier to Dodge (and it is built to a price point, so parts that are originally designed well may be sourced cheaply). They have nothing to do with the transmission or the rest of the truck, nor how the truck is driven for that matter. It sounds like the engine is still doing quite well in your buddy's truck if it's still trashing transmissions at 300K+ miles. There are many reasons to bash Dodge trucks, but the Cummins engine really isn't one of them, especially since their sales have gone from about 16,000 units in Dodge trucks in 1989 when the 5.9L was introduced to well over 100,000 per year now. It's almost single-handedly responsible for the increase of the Ram Truck brand, which in that same time period went from less than 100,000 units per year to over 400,000 currently.

Well look at the heavy equipment side of the world that Cummins name plate is in a lot of places. Heck when I was dealing with equipment repair for a company and CAT would come out to do services on the new loaders, they had a mix older fords with CAT engines or new trucks with Cummins due to at that time CAT didn't want to deal with the new tier fuel system.
I myself personally from my experience working on the 3 of them I could never own a rot box dodge, a GM ehh yes, my 92-96 fords no doubt just getting to be more and more scarce in good shape.
Let him try his goat brand he will be back, same with new trucks this according to a guy I know that is of some importance there at the fiat mopar joke land the company that is building the diesels for the 1500 and grand cherokee, guess what he said cummins is out so this company is going to build a diesel for their trucks too.

If he was driving it back from where he bought it I could see it. I did a run from just north of Zion National park in Utah to Portland Oregon in a day. I drove from before the sun came up to after it went down, but I still did it in a day...
