Up pipes and Down pipes.

Need some help with the brain trust.
I know I need new up pipes, they are leaking bad. My problem is when the shop that installed my Down pipe they not only clamped it they welded them too. So I can't remove it or move it without cutting it off. Is my only choice now is to remove the transmission? Or either way the down pipe has to be removed to do the up pipes.

Did the shop work on the downpipe, or the up-pipes? You realize that the two aren't in any way directly connected, right?

The shop installed the down pipe. He put the clamps on the down pipe and then welded the seam. Its not a continuous weld, he just hit it on three places on the seam. I quess I could try and grind the welds off.

You shouldn't have to do anything with the downpipe.

The transmission has to be removed to do the up pipes, you won't be getting the bolts out of the top without removing the trans, at least i couldn't and im a professional mechanic in a very well equipped shop. If your working with the up pipes either get the bellowed pipes from riff raff or put the bellows in yourself, i had a thread on bellowed up pipes you can search for. also there is no reason why that downpipe should have been welded, hopefully it didn't mess up the flange on the turbo outlet to bad.

You can absolutely do the up-pipes with the down pipe still in. That's how I did it. Bellowed up pipe thread

The links to what parts I used are in that thread.

Did you guys have the manual trans? It's not as wide as the e40d I have the e40d and tried like crazy to get the bolts without removing the trams and couldn't get them.

You have to pull the turbo.

If you are going to do diy bellowed up pipes it's probably best to pull the turbo. At least then it will be easy to mike sure you have them right before welding

I did pull the turbo, have to have the trans out to get to the back one or two pedestal bolts as well, we tried over and over to do this without pulling the trans, we spent longer trying to find alternatives to pulling the trans than it took to pull the trans.

E40D here, maybe your body mounts are shot causing the body to sit low. I would at least take the rear trans support off and lower the back of the trans down to help before removing the trans.

E4od here.no trans pull.I did lift one side of cab at a time to help get the pipes manuvered out. But my cab mounts were shot and getting replaced all at the same time.
