Side Steps

Has anyone used these or something close? How far do they stick out from the side of the truck?

I have these on my '92 f-150 and initially I had the same concern. Mine do not stick out beyond the stock side view mirrors. In fact they are about 2" inboard from them. They work well.
[Edit] In looking at your truck these would be well inboard of your mirrors. I'll post a pic if you want.

I was also concerned about them being bad for the cab floors with the twisting they would cause, or are they fine?

Here they are

I have had no trouble with them warping or anything of that nature, and I weigh 240+ lbs. Be sure to use the reinforcing bar that is in the kit.

That bar just goes on the inside of the cab floor under the carpet right?

That is correct. It took me less than an hour to put them in and I like their look and function.

There is a slight downside. During the winter they can become quite slick and icy from road splash/slush, but it knocks off readily.

I like them. They really help my wife get in/out of the truck on the rare occasion that she will "get into that beast".

they are very tough on the body metal. if it is not perfect, they will rip out of the body and fall off. a much better step is the DeeZee tough step. slightly expensive at $266. but well worth it. they bolt to the frame and stick out just under the rocker panel.
i have had a set on my 88 for the past 26 years. they have been hit and bent under the truck by tree stumps, but bend rite back out where they are supposed to be with a bit of leverage.

Like Tom said, I would strongly discourage you from attaching steps to the body. It will rip out and send you tumbling at the worst moment. Use something that attaches to the frame, like those tough steps or a nerf bar.

My experience with these are different. I've had them for two+ years, using them many times a day, and they remain solid. I guess one could say, "your experience may vary".
I would absolutely have to agree though that something that attches to the frame would be tougher, but then drilling attachment holes into the frame weakens that also...true?

They will probably more for getting out than in, getting in is fine but getting out there's nothing to put weight on but the steering wheel or the fold done armrest, the steering wheel being the worst thing to have to put weight on and the armrest probably not much better. The truck sits factory as a 2 wheel drive so I'll probably step over them. Getting out wouldn't put very much on them beings I weight like 140.

Agreed 110% with Tom. I run the DeeZee tough steps on several of my truck.

As for the steps you linked to, I have seen HORRIBLE things those Carr steps to when bolted to sheet metal STAY AWAY from them

I have seen plenty out here and used them and they are solid, but I do not live in the rust belt. Not much selection for our trucks. These and the diamond plate ones like deezee or owens. I think N-Fab may still make a set of nerd bars but i believe they to mount on the body.

I'd guess you'll end up using them both ways. Every vehicle I've had with steps or "ground effect" skirts on cars, it was in the way for getting in and out. I was always bumping my leg on it and getting my pants dirty. You just about have to step on them to keep from hitting them.
