Visors are pretty easy to do but if you can, use a sewing machine vs. a hand stick on these if you can......just easier though I've seen machine like stitching done by hand.
The idea was sorta based around the rarity of the oem piece. It's not high on my list of important options, but still a neat feature on an old truck.

Nice work gm4walls! Cool project.

Awesome that you picked up the ball and ran with it. Looking good so far. Yes I have only seen one in real life, well 2 now with fordrealdrives pic.

And yes that visor is way thicker than a none visor one, but my dvrs side is just as thick and without a light.

Happy wife, happy life, more Ford truck parts.

I really could use a measurement from top to bottom so I can keep it close to.stock appearing.

Currently I'm 5,561 miles from my tape measure and the visor.

I am sure fordrealdrive will chime in.

my dad's old fancy crew cab with the lighted visors were not vinyl. they were fabric. ribbed to match the seats. I assume they were stock. man I wish I had that truck still..

Good idea on this project/challenge Rich (77&79F250)!

I'd be happy to help with measurements as soon as I'm home from work today, if its not pouring down rain...

I just checked one from a 79 super cab. Top to bottom 6 1/8 " ,finish to finish edges . I forgot i had a set of them until i started following this thread and i just bought a set of plan jane ones so i could have white ones . The ones i have are like the ones here on this thread ,not the blue ones. I could have changed the color , oh well maybe later.

Okay, want some input here. Today at Home Depot, I looked at some materials for replacing the cards inside the visors. First thought was hardboard (Masonite). There are two thicknesses, 1/4 and 3/16. I have used this for door panels, but not for visors. You guys think that would be rigid enough for a visor that will be pulled up and down for years to come? Also, since the physical size is larger then the originals, I am thinking about making a lighted visor for both sides.

I need to this. Guy up the road from me has a few of them but won't get rid of any.

I measured 6 1/8" also, top to bottom. Measuring from the "stub" =11" to the edge of the light/mirror unit, and the thickness is near an inch throughout the length of the visor...it does get thinner towards the stub, approximately 13/16".

It appears to be a hard plastic material under the vinyl/padding. The piece is plenty rigid yet lightweight. The hardboard or maybe some abs plastic should work.

This is definitely not my area of expertise, but I'm interested in seeing it come together.
