Making your own lighted sun visors

I decided to accept the challenge of installing a lighted mirror into a dent visor. So for better or worse, I am posting my progress as I go.

The green visor is a junk yard find in mediocre shape. The black one came from a Lincoln Town Car that is donating it's lighted mirror.

First up, get the vinyl cover off the dentside mirror. There are two chrome clips up top, pry them open with a small flat screwdriver and remove. Next cut the thread holding the vinyl seam binder and remove the binder. The vinyl cover pulls right off in one piece.

Here is the visor minus the cover... As you can see there is some water damage. I will most likely replace this for the final product, but for now we will call this the prototype phase. Lol

On the Lincoln visor, remove the lenses over the lights and there are screws. Remove them and the top lifts off easily. There are two wires attached. They pull off easily.

Ok. Well it appears my mirror is molded into the visor. Going to have to cut it out.

Thanks. Hopefully I can make this a simple, working mod.

Ok, the first thing I have noticed is that the mirror will require a bigger visor. Seeing as the cardboard on the original is warped, I am just going to make the new visor a bit bigger. So off to the hardware store tomorrow. I will post my progress as it comes.

Couldn't say the wife nor I'd care about a lighted mirror but it's gotta be worth it to someone for you to do this. Cool idea and congrats on the project. I take it you've done a snippit of interior work before and kinda know the road your heading down? Visors are pretty easy to do but if you can, use a sewing machine vs. a hand stick on these if you can......just easier though I've seen machine like stitching done by hand.

My background is in car audio, so interior work is something I am familiar with. This project was not my idea, it was brought up on this forum, so I decided to give it a try.

Right on.....kinda taking one for the team huh? I know my past experiences have gotten me knee deep in project I wished I never started...hehe. Good thing this one is pretty simple and straight forward. Thanks for showing us all how and keep the pics coming.....
