Oh. I forgot. I'm in Arizona now. We do get floods and idiots do try to drive through them. It's possible it went for a swim but I don't see any evidence, if that's what happened.

It's starting to sound more and more like that broken rod I mentioned.

At this point, I'm just going to put it up for sale for what I've got into it. Pity. It's a beautiful rig.

i would have never guessed a broken rod .... i've never met anyone that beat on a modular motor bad enough to break a con rod.

Just how much of a chore is it to replace an engine in one of these? It obviously isn't like my old bullnose F150, where I could swap an engine in about 3-4 hours.

Imagine carrying a 300 pound person on your back while climbing Mt. Everest.

My post was meant as a warning, I didn't mean to scare you off.

Nah. You didn't scare me off. It was just a confirmation of what I already suspected. Most of my tools are in a storage unit in Colorado, still. PITA engine swaps are not on the "to do" list, at the moment.

Well, we talked to a shop and got a pretty reasonable quote to R&R the engine. Looks like we're keeping the Expy.
