51 F1 factory heater?

Did these trucks have a heater & defrost standard from the factory or was it an option? Does anyone have a link to an exploded view or assembly manual page? My dad's truck does not have one, but there was a control panel with switch and 3 cables in the misc boxes of parts that came with the truck. I noticed there are defrost vents in the dash but they seem kind of useless just there on their own without anything blowing through them...

Heaters were an extra cost option or dealer installed accessory thru 1966. 1967 was the first year the heater/defroster was standard equipment.

1951 heater, 1948/50 and 1952 are different.

Thanks Bill, much appreciated!

So in the parts box, we have the panel with the 4 ***** & cables, the Y that goes on the fan housing, the "Magic Air" cap over the motor, and nothing else

I think there was also a recirculating heater in 1951 wasn't there? That's what mine has.

There were 'fresh air' or recirculation heaters installed for many of the years they were dealer options. The fresh air varieties from 48-66 used some version of the air intake tube shown on Bill's drawing. Firstrider is your authoritative source for all heater related questions and refurbished parts on FTE.

Always possible your truck had an old dealer stock heater installed. The dealer has an old stock heater in his inventory and you want a heater, guess what you will most likely get. There were quite a few aftermarket heaters readily available, too.

My '51 came to me with a "HaDees" heater installed. I refurbished it and re-installed it.

Does anyone have a diagram for the 1948 recirculating heater? The one with the 3 doors, two upper and one lower?
Thanks
Ed

You mean like this one in my '49 F4?
Edit: I've seen them with block letters but don't remember what the application was.

I believe the heater with the block FORD letters is the recirculating heater. Ray's heater shown above with the Ford script is a fresh air heater.

Thanks for the offer, but getting the truck running reliably is a higher priority right now.
