2005 Navigator floor shifter help needed

Can anyone tell me how to adjust the shifter cable for this vehicle? It won't go into park properly and will not start. You can move the shift lever on the transmission by hand and it will start but once you move the floor shift lever in the car it won't go back into park. Is there something else I should be looking for? Thanks

Did you notice a yellow rectangle on the transmission shift lever. That is the adjustment of the cable, you squeeze the tabs and you can lengthen it. that is what it seems to need a little longer to get it in park. jack up the truck go under and i think you will see how the setup works.

Thanks for the reply- turns out it was a broken shift cable. As you move the shifter towards park the cable sleeve, not the cable was moving. Had to order from the dealer. Any tips on how to properly adjust after the new one is installed?

Set the parking brake, then put both the shifter and tranny in neutral. Install the cable and it should be good to go. If need be, squeeze the tabs on the yellow adjustment block and move it accordingly.
