Will a palm random action sander work or do you need something special for paint work? I've got a white fiberglass bed cover that needs some attention.

I have used kirker paint for 15 years when I spray. My Pete looked good for seven years despite my professional painter friends who poo-pooed the idea of using a low cost paint.

I shot the Pete with $350.00 worth of primer, reducer and color (single stage urethane).

Equipment paint would work good too just make sure to use a hardener. Otherwise the paint never dries and it is soft. I painted a liquid manure spreader years ago just slapped straight john deere enamel on it and 2 seasons later I was back to a rusty tank. To remove the old paint I used a flap disc sander but you have to be careful I made a hot spot in the metal on one side and it's still showing threw the paint and primer.

Nothing wrong with that, but I would clear it too so the shine will last. Single stage paint loves to fade out

Ha. I am considering tracking down some flat additive. I actually like the Arizona-oxidized look.

Is the white due to paint, or the fiberglass gelcoat?

If it's paint, you probably have peeling clear coat. Once the clear is gone, your sander should be fine.

Same goes if you are going to paint a gelcoat.

Does rolling the paint leave a texture like it does when you roll a wall? What kind of rollers are you using? Looks good in the pics anyway!

Yes, that is why you have to thin it and wetland between coats

For best results use a foam roller… I like a Sata roller

This is the final coat dry. It looks very nice, still gona be a 10 foot paint job its not perfect but overall im very pleased with my $22 investment. Clear coat tonight and ill 1500 grit wet sand then buff. Ill post pictures of that as well.
These are the supplies i used with a high density roller. I got good at mixing without measuring every coat has been flawless. The cab i am going to prime with rustoleum red auto primer then use Rustoleum Regal Red in a spray can then clear coat and 1500 grit wet sand and buff.
I just got RUST FREE doors and fenders from a co worker yesterday too, all it cost me was his lunch at the local bar! And up here in MN thats better than solid gold! So next ill be sanding down the doors, fenders and the two trim pieces for the front clip. The cab needs some patch work but i have a wire feed and access to as much scrap sheet metal as i need!

Yes, the clear is peeling off what the white paint. I'll need to get the clear off first. Thanks!
