What supports the bottom of headlight?

The other weekend I was pushing on my headlight at the bottom to drill a hole and something broke. Now the bottom of the headlight is flimsy. For now I have plastic thing in between the bottom of the light and chrome surround but I need new headlights anyways so I'm wondering if there are tabs on the light I broke or did I break something on the truck itself? I watched a YouTube video and I couldn't tell but there are steel clips on the back in 3 spots right? Would a new headlight fix the no bottom support situation I have created? It moves freely in about a half inch and will bounce w no support there so the headlight looks like it's flickering going down the road I bet

Should be able to press it back in... There is a little plastic ball at the end of the rod that presses in to snap fit slot unless its broke

It could also be the metal clips.

Those 3 shiny clips are what hold the headlight in.

I doubt it's the clips. They are very sturdy and really hard to get off. I am thinking you broke the little gear case that allows adjustment of the headlight. There is only one attachment point at the bottom of the headlight (versus 2 at the top) and it's got the little gearcase between the headlight and the bucket. It may not be broken broken, it's possible the top just popped out of it's holding tabs. You will need to take off the chrome surround in order to get a look at it.

I just replaced the headlights on my son's '95 and that gearcase is not very stout, it doesn't take much to bust it.

Not so hard if you take snap ring pliers to them. Stick the pliers in the holes on each of the little ears, spread them open, and push them off the retainer with a screwdriver!

So once again the right tool, which I don't have, would have made this much easier. I have snap-ring pliers, just not the right-angle kind.
