1970 Ford F250 Courtesy Lights

I just installed a new dome light assembly and new sockets and door jamb switches in my truck. I followed the factory wiring and connected all up accordingly, as the vehicle' s previous owner removed the dome light and the door jamb switches, and snipped the wires to those items.

The wiring diagram was easy to follow, BUT when you shut either of the doors the dome light doesn't go out. Even removing the switches doesn't make the light go out. Checked and re-checked, referenced all possible wiring diagrams, which are all standard Ford wiring. New bulb and new fuse.

Any thoughts?

Pull each fuse until the light goes out. Once you figure out which fuse, you can figure out which circuit is causing the bulb to burn. You can then look at the diagrams for that circuit and find out what color wire that circuit is. That might clue you in on where the problem may be.

Thank you for the reply.

I have traced the root of the problem. Seems like, partly an oversight on my behalf, a previous owner had a different light switch installed, as he upgraded to halogen bulbs, as opposed to sealed beam bulbs. The original switch caused the lights to flicker intermittently, due to the absence of relays. So, an aftermarket was installed.

In my enthusiasm to restore the original harness to its rightful condition, I switched the light green/yellow and black/blue wires on the actual light switch.... Switch them back and .

The driver's side door jam courtesy light switch needs to be replaced. How do i get to the inner part of the switch. I took the outer part out, but the rest stayed in the door jam. How do i get to it?

I don't know the answer to that, but I would suggest you start a new thread with an appropriate subject since the problem isn't really the courtesy light itself. It will help people know what you are looking for and is more likely to attract those that know the answer.
Also, tell us the year and style of truck in the post, or better yet, in your sig. Different trucks may have different answers.
