Sliding Rear Window

My local junkyard FINALLY got a couple of dents. A '73 and a '79. Both have sliding rear glass, which I would love to have on my '76.

How much of a pain would it be to pull the back glass out of the junkyard truck? I would probably have a glass shop install in my truck, but it would be up to me to get it out of the junkyard. I have heard there is a special tool??

Anybody done this?

Ya, a sharp knife. Cut the rubber and pull the window out. Your rear window seal you have now will work with the slider.

Pretty sure the seals are different between regular and sliding rear windows. Each type needs a specific seal.

Also FYI, You can put a rear window in you dent from any Ford truck from '73 - '96/'97. The cabs have the same window opening. Makes it a little easier at the junkyard since the newer trucks windows are usually in better shape, seals haven't dried up etc...

Nope, same seal either solid glass or sliding. Only difference is with or without bright trim strip and wide or narrow trim.

could always just order a new seal from ebay or glass dealer.

Best to have two people there. one to push the glass out and one to catch it. Same when putting back in. There is a string trick with the seal that makes it a breeze to put back in.

I'm getting new glass in my truck tomorrow. Went with a solid rear window because the price was right. FREE!

Here are my suggestions. Try to find factory sliding window, repair parts are easier to find, believe it or not.
Use the seal from the truck you pull the slider from. If it a factory window, and need a new seal, order it for the truck window came out of.
I have done alot of reading on this and it sounds like there have been people that have had problems with the seals. My guess, although I can not confirm, is that there is a difference either in the newer truck seal, and window, or these people have come across after market windows that required their own seal. It sound like the difference is in the grove the window sits in, and there are different widths of this groove. But, as stated, I believe you can remedy this by following above suggestions.
