question about spider gears,8.8

hey guys.

well me and my dad was checking the diff for wear.we found alot of slop in one of the spider gears that rides on the king pin.

dose anyone know if this is normal wear or is this a problem?

while we was in there.we counted the teeth on the pinion and ring gear.

the pinion is 37
the ring gear is 47

comes to 1.27 is that right?

Your math is correct, but you must be counting the wrong gear. There are no axles in any road vehicle with a 1.27 ratio.

Is this slop gear lash or does the gear wobble on the shaft?

Does this axle make noise?

Was there a tag on the axle cover? If so, post what it says.

Not sure what you are counting, but it can not be 37/47 for the ring and pinion.

I hated English class when I was in school, but darn maybe it needs to be emphasized these days. However my English class wasn't "read Atlas Shrugged and write a 5000 word essay on it", I wish it was. It was "read this short poorly written politically correct indoctrination book and make a collage to show how you feel"

Anyway.....

You mean cross pin not kingpin right(#4211 in NumberDummy's diagram)? Pull the pin and the gears and inspect them, post a pic or two of them. It's not uncommon for the 8.8 to have cross pin issues, but the gears aren't supposed to be "tight" either.

The pin is easily removed by removing the retaining bolt #4241 in the diagram and pushing the pin out the bottom. The gears then come out easy by turning just one axle.

The gears do look worn out.'
