'05 Power Steering Pump

'05 Power Steering Pump
I got around to replacing my Power Steering Pump today. A fitting on it separated months ago and I have been running it that way. It finally seized a couple of weeks ago and the pulley spun off. The serpentine belt didn't work because of the missing pulley so I cut it off, being too lazy to try to work it out, besides the engine was too hot to work on it anyways. I didn't have, power, anything because of the missing belt and since the water pump wasn't turning it would overheat quickly. Not being much of a mechanic I've been procrastinating on buying the parts and fixing it.
I went to the local Ford dealership for the parts. They were a lot more than I expected. It cost me $650.00. The serpentine belt was $90.00. I'll get $40.00 back for a core. I did get some parts for my door.
Everything went on smoother than I expected. Except the serpentine belt. I got it on and it seems a little too loose. Everything worked, but it squealed and it wasn't charging. I made sure the tensioner was working properly and the belt was tracking correctly. I figured I routed the belt wrong and looked up a diagram online. I did route it incorrectly. I pulled it off and went by the diagram and it was tight like it should be. No squealing and it was charging again.
Lessons learned. Don't procrastinate! I could have replaced the line that busted for $90.00 and in 30 minutes or so. Maybe shop around for a better deal than the dealership and save some money. Look for diagrams and instructions before starting to install parts.
Will I apply the lessons I just learned, of course not.

I do this all the time. I have a '95 F350 OBS and a '05 Peterbilt 387. You should see me arguing with the parts guys when they bring me the wrong parts for one truck or the other.
