So how bad did I hurt my motor? Worth fixing, or toss for a 6BT?

Yes, I did it in about a month and a half working on weekends.

Here is some of the swap. With injectors, turning up the pump and some turbo mods, I'm up to stock 6.0 hp with more torque and cool egts.

As far as cost goes, I had about 4k into swap parts, 3.5 k into the motor. Parted out my 6.0 and made about 3k back. Most of the swap cost is adapting the 5r110 to the Cummins. If you use a donor Dodge with a manual trans and swap to a manual it could be done fairly cheap.

If I spent a little time hunting I could find 2 6.0 engines for $7500 and have my truck back in a day.

Here's the thing. I do agree with most of you that in most cases it is better to fix the 6.0. I really have no problem with them once you do some research and know what to look for and how to maintain them, they are good motors with a lot of power potential and reliable. But, if it comes to the point where the motor for lack of a better term is "totaled" the cost of ownership and maintenance of a 6bt looks pretty appealing if you are mechanically inclined and planning on keeping the truck for awhile.

I mean really what's not to love about a truck with modern creature comforts and a simple as dirt reliable engine that is cheap to maintain and get parts for?

I'd argue that unlike the gas carburetor/fuel injection argument, as diesels have "advanced" they have become less user friendly, more costly, and less reliable. The only thing they do better is make more power per cubic inch and satisfy epa personnel who have no idea how an internal combustion engine works or runs efficiently.

Kert, you're at about 350 HP? How much black smoke does it put out under throttle? I want to NOT be one of the coal-rolling brodozers.

I'll be honest, if I go from a dead stop and stomp on it it will smoke. I have my pump ("VE" not a "p") turned up pretty far, but I have the fueling ramp rate backed out as far as possible. Under normal situations it doesn't smoke, but it will smoke if you get in it before it spools. Once it's spooled, even under full throttle pulling 30 psi boost it really doesn't smoke. It's all about matching your turbo and pump timing to whatever injector you run. Egt's run at least 200deg cooler than my 6.0 ever did.

Smokes about as much as my 6.0 did with Power Hungry's 50hp ecm tunes...

The only bad part, IMHO of the cummins is the straight pipe exhaust drone and noise, man are they ever loud, even at low output they can be very annoying.
